A Day Trip to Winchester

A Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandWhen it comes to road trips, we're Americans, which is to say we're professionals at it. Driving for hours upon hours aint no thang where we come from. That said, some people are much better suited for driver status and others, DJ/navigator/food handerer status (raises hand). In Dallas, driving was a way of life. We drove even five minutes down the road. In Brussels, we were given a stick shift. Justin had to learn immediately to get to work and I never had to. As time went on, we just avoided that inevitable argument of terribly different teaching/learning styles in a stressful situation. In San Francisco, we bought an automatic. The world seemed right again (until we missed the heck out of Europe). I practiced driving a handful of times, but the majority of our time on the road was spent in wine country, where I was happily the passenger indulging in tastings - *wink. When it came time for London, we knew a car wasn't for us. The walking/transport life of Europe overtook us again and until last weekend, we had thought the world of driving irrelevant to us.A Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandSo, yes. About last weekend. We partnered with Fiat to take their Fiat 500S for a spin or two. We were already headed down to Winchester to catch the latest Blue Apple Theatre's performance of It's a Wonderful Life. We immediately assumed our old road trip roles. Justin as the driver and I as the DJ slash navigator, made easy with the 500's dashboard GPS. The GPS found the best route and redirected us when we hit traffic. We're so used looking down at our miniature phone screens that the 7" high definition touch screen on the dashboard made our trip a piece of cake. As for the DJ, I plugged my phone into the USB port to charge and streamed my Spotify playlist to jam out to over the Beats speakers.A Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandWinchester is definitely a destination city, which we found out quickly from the long queues of cars trying to park in the garages. Thankfully, our slick Fiat is made for cities. As we zipped in and out of tiny roads, catching glimpses of the adorable town, we squeezed into a parking spot just off the center.A Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandWinchester stole our hearts over the summer, so it was lovely to revisit the charming town, now oozing with Christmas spirit. Carolers every couple of blocks, the smell of pine and cinnamon filling the air, while lights dripped from building to building above our heads. We strolled through the market in front of the cathedral and sipped on mulled wine to warm our fingers. We ate French cuisine for dinner at Brasserie Blanc.A Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandWhen it was time for the play, we hopped back in the Fiat and found a tiny spot right out front of the theatre. It happened to be right behind another Fiat that had been speckled camouflage - can you imagine?! So many fun ways to customize this little guy. The show was grand! If you ever have the chance to catch a performance by Blue Apple Theatre, we highly suggest it.A Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandA Day Trip to Winchester, EnglandThis post was written in collaboration with Fiat.
